Belated FO shots and more!

I eventually got out of the spinning funk and went on to spin some very nice thin singles.

I plied them together and got not so good result since my first bobbin was not so consistent as the second.

Still pretty to be sure, but not the most perfect either.

Also photographed an FO I finished AGES ago. It's a Baktus scarf, which is basically just a triangle you start at one point, increase until you're halfway through your yarn (or it's half as big as you want it to be) and then start decreasing. I think it's a brilliant project for handspun, when you want to be careful not to have too many leftovers and want to show off the beautiful yarn.

I was getting breakfast and noticed the morning light was ideal for FO modeling.

Very Brooklyntweed, eh? ;-) If only I had an SLR..... ::sigh:: :)

Spinning Funk

I suppose I had to have one eventually. I feel completely inept. I've wasted ounces and ounces of beautiful fiber.

Maybe spinning laceweight singles from the fold using backwards long draw was too high a challenge to set for my experience level?

It is Spun!

But not quite what I was expecting:

It's beautiful, but I thought I had been spinning for a 2-ply fingering and it turned out to be more aran/bulky. Waaaaaaay off. Don't know if the fiber might have something to do with it, but I was sure I had been spinning thin:

I suppose I should do the proper, organized thing and make a WPI gauge. I really just want to wing it though.

I am very happy with how the plying turned out, much better than my first attempt. :)

So....

This has been a bit of a wash, eh?

I suppose this isn't something I should use to update daily, but it wouldn't hurt to use as a place to record my thoughts on my knit projects and brand new spinning obsession.

Spinning some pretty pretty Corriedale cross fiber now. The plan is to make a 2-ply fingering weight. We shall see.....

1. "God, I hate this yarn. This is why I have more expensive taste."

2. "At least I've learned how to do a cable cast-on. And now I'm going to go back to my old one."

3. "I hate these fucking cables. Yes, they are fucking cables even though I haven't started them yet."

Testing out Google's Picasa. Pretty groovy. These are the first few rows of some Christmas knitting--Probably a bit late to be getting started, but there you go. I'm doing a modified Fan and Feather stitch scarf with some Windy Valley Muskox Qiviut yarn. It's not as soft as I've been expecting--I wonder if the shop had it stored for a while? I figure it'll get much softer and fuzzier after I wash and block it [which I am extremely reluctant to do]. This picture does not do the color justice. I will try taking another in some better lighting tomorrow.

Well this worked out very well....

I think I'll stop trying to excuse the fact that I just don't write in this thing very often. I'll just pick up wherever I left off the last time I was here.
